- VULNERABLE GROUPS
Supporting Vulnerable Populations
Funds will provide social intervention and palliative care for the most vulnerable: the elderly and those suffering from underlying health conditions; those with poor access to affordable health services, those in low-income, informal and insecure jobs or internally displaced persons; and those who are providing healthcare and other essential services.
- HEALTHCARE
Health Systems Resilience
Funds will help to build and upgrade old healthcare infrastructure and provide sustainable capacity towards future response efforts and containment. There is concern about the limited diagnostic capacity of the country which is a stark reflection of years of underfunding of the health care sector. The sector has been historically underfunded, receiving less than 5% of the total budget, rather than the 15% as recommended by the Abuja Declaration of April 2001.
Funds will help to facilitate access to universal health services. This will establish one global standard community based Primary Health Care center across each of the 774 Nigerian Local Government Areas (LGAs). This will enable equitable delivery of affordable, high quality health care to some of the nation’s most marginalized communities in remote and low income areas.
- CAPACITY BUILDING
Reskilling and retooling of Nigerian Youth
Funds will support human capital development to address the skills gap required to strengthen the nation’s labor market, and meet the demands of a changing workforce in the aftermath of the COVID 19 pandemic. The pandemic has created both a global health and economic crisis. An investment in the workforce is imperative as the nation adjusts to the realities of a changing economy, transitions to a “new normal” and envisions the Nigeria of the future.
By dedicating resources not only to the immediate needs posed by the pandemic but also building resilient systems for a post COVID-19 era – strengthening Nigeria’s public healthcare systems so that everyone especially the most vulnerable groups have access to quality and affordable healthcare, and building capacity to equip our youth with the skills they need to be economically empowered, we can ensure that no one is left behind.
