The NSSF story

Building a Fair, People-Centred Health System for Nigeria

The Nigeria Solidarity Support Fund (NSSF) was established in response to Nigeria’s first confirmed case of COVID-19 on February 27, 2020. This innovative fund emerged from a strategic partnership between Global Citizen and the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) to address the urgent gaps within Nigeria’s healthcare system. Amid the pandemic, it became evident that the country’s health infrastructure required both immediate and long-term interventions to support equitable healthcare access for all Nigerians.

NSSF is a Nigerian non-profit advancing health equity through the twin engines of policy development and youth-led advocacy. We exist to tackle Nigeria’s critical health challenges by turning evidence into policy and youth energy into action, so that the most vulnerable, especially women and children, can access the care they deserve.

Our work is organised around two impact pillars:

NSSF Policy: We generate and synthesise data, convene high-level dialogues, and publish actionable policy products that inform government and private-sector decisions. We translate community insights into pragmatic system reforms that expand access, improve quality, and strengthen accountability.

WeNaija (Youth Arm): We build the next generation of health leaders by preparing young Nigerians by equipping them with practical skills in advocacy, storytelling, data collection, and solution design.

Guided by a clear mission to improve health literacy, expand access to care, and advance equity through evidence and policy, NSSF bridges community realities with decision-making tables. With a proven track record of national-scale impact and community-level innovation, NSSF is shaping a more just, resilient, and people-centred health system for Nigeria.
